Have you ever imagined a paid version of Snapchat with new features and a format more suited to businesses? Today, it is a reality with Snapchat +.
Indeed, the social network is rolling out a paid version of the service like Twitter or Telegram did before it. It would seem that we are in the era of paid application extensions. Let’s see what to expect with Snapchat +: which features for which target and for what effect?
Snapchat Plus: What is It?
Snapchat is a social network for sharing photos and ephemeral messages. The platform is very popular with under-20s. It has 319 million daily active users and 500 million monthly active users. Additionally, users are curious about the “Snapchat planets order best friends” feature, which is part of the platform’s unique friend categorization.
Like other social networks, it now has a paid offer called “Snapchat +” available in France, Germany, Canada, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
Snapchat + starts at $3.99/month and brings new features to users. These are features that are added to the existing ones.
New Features
Creating content on social networks always requires the implementation of new versions. A new version means new features. Indeed, by subscribing to Snapchat +, you already get the possibility of further personalizing your profile as well as personalized assistance in the event of technical problems.
That’s not all. You will also have to deal with the possibility of changing the application icon, detecting accounts that have seen your stories multiple times, or even pinning a friend as a BFF/Best Friend.
Users of the Snapchat + version will also receive a badge on their profile and the possibility of seeing on the map the history of the places their friends have recently visited.
According to Snap Inc., the app should have more features by then, not all of which will be intended for premium users. The latter would be a test platform in the long term. A place where premium users would play the role of beta testers to test the features before they are released to everyone.
The Target
As you can see, Snapchat + has so far been deployed in a few countries including France. According to the company, this premium version of the social network was designed for a particular type of user.
These are people who spend most of their time communicating on Snap, with their close friends. This would explain why the new features are minor additions, suitable for any seasoned user of the social network. To get Snapchat +, there will be no separate applications to download.
How to Get Snapchat Plus?
To get Snapchat +, there will be no need to download another app. Changing a few settings will be enough. Follow the steps:
- Open the app and go to your profile icon located in the upper left corner to open your profile page.
- If Snapchat Plus is available in your region, you will click on the banner advertising it under your name.
- Next, choose the type of subscription you want to sign up for (one month, six months, or one year) and tap Start 7-day free trial.
- Depending on your device, sign in to the platform using your Apple ID, Google Account, or an associated debit or credit card.
Once the payment process is complete, a menu will appear showing some of the features that Snapchat + offers you. It will allow you to activate or deactivate the ones you want. Enjoy your one-week free trial after which you will pay for the subscription you previously chose.
To cancel your subscription, go to your profile. Tap the gear icon in the top right, then Snapchat +. Finally, tap Manage your subscription to open the page that allows you to pause your subscription. To do this, you will need the same phone or PC that you used when you signed up.
Why This New Version?
Snapchat + will certainly bring some new possibilities to its users. However, it was mainly launched to diversify revenues. Indeed, the company has suffered, like other social networks, the setbacks of Apple’s new App Tracking Transparency policy.
This feature allows users to share their data with an application for advertising purposes or not. Such a provision has affected the company’s advertising activities. The latter missed its revenue estimates during the third quarter of 2021.
The Snapchat + offer, although very promising, turned out to be less interesting than expected, with minor changes. This is also the share of many premium versions of social networks.
For example: Twitter Blue, would have only brought in $94 million in the last quarter of 2021. A drop of 31% compared to 2020. This says a lot about the public’s enthusiasm for paid versions. Nevertheless, using Snapchat + could turn out to be a better experience than expected.
